Trees and Shrub Installation
Although spring is known as being the season for growing new things, believe it or not, for many trees, now is the ideal time for installing.
When you plant in the spring, it can get hot quickly, which can be stressful for new plants. Planting in fall gives trees an extra season to establish themselves, making it easier to handle the heat later.
Worried your trees can’t survive the winter? Talk to Master Grass. Many trees are hardier than you might think. Others need a little extra help to get through the cold. We’ll ensure you have everything you need!
Grass Seeds and Sod Installation
Fall is the perfect time for aerating and overseeding your lawn. But it can also be an excellent time for sod installation. Summer and spring are when most sod is installed, but much like trees, sod can benefit from a milder season while establishing itself, especially the cool season grasses.
Blogs are eternal, so depending on when you’re reading this, you may or may not have time to install sod. Sod must establish its root system six weeks before the first expected freezing temperature.
Flower Beds
Spring may be the traditional flower season, but there is so much you could do with your flower beds in the fall. We would love to help with fall flower bed installs. So what can you do with your flower beds now?
New Flowers
Many flowers thrive in the fall. Some need to be planted earlier, but some can be added last minute (read now).
Mums and Asters are beautiful fall blooms that will liven up any bleak winter landscape. Both are perennials that will come back every year though mums are more likely to survive the winter if planted in the spring.
Side note: Now is also an excellent time to remove all annuals that won’t be around next season.
Mulch is Ever Green (or Brown, or Black, or Red…)
When you think about landscaping installs, you probably think about plants, but mulch has the benefit of not being alive, so you can install it anytime!
The fall is a great time to touch up your gardens with new mulch. The color will last through the winter even if you no longer have anything alive in your garden. Plus, if you still have plants in your garden, the mulch will help insulate them during winter.
Veggies
Many vegetables can be planted and/or harvested in the fall. However, kale and many other leafy greens prefer cool weather and, when planted in early fall, can be harvested later and sometimes even into the winter!
You can also plant garlic in the fall though you won’t be able to enjoy it until the summer. However, fall planting is a fun way to teach kids about the life cycle, patience, and waiting for something to grow.
The Installation Process
Plant installation varies in complexity from plant to plant. So naturally, larger plants like trees will take more work than smaller ones like garlic and flowers. But no matter what you’re growing, you could use some help and expertise.
Preparing the ground before installing anything is vital to its survival. But before digging, you must consider safety. Master Grass will always do our due diligence to check for power and utility lines.
We’ll test the soil to ensure it has the adequate nutrients to grow the plants you want to be installed, and we’ll make sure the ground has the water in it to support thirsty newly transported root systems.
