The mowing season is ending, along with beach season (sigh). The snow removal season has yet to arrive. You might think MasterGrass is about ready to put up some hammocks for naptime, but you would be incorrect!
There is still quite a bit to do in the fall to prepare for the winter and finish the summer. The most significant of those tasks, and one that many other miscellaneous duties fall under, is seasonal cleanup. The most significant of those tasks, and one that many other miscellaneous duties fall under, is property cleanup.
Seasonal cleanup is not one of the landscaping chores of which everyone is already aware. And though it’s a monster of a job, it’s a friendly monster, so we’ll explain it to you like one of our favorite monsters would.
Let’s learn the ABCs of fall property cleanup. Kowabunga!
D is for Definition
Seasonal cleanup is the periodical work of preparing your yard for the next season. It includes tasks like defining lines by edging, removing debris from dead plants and other items, removing dead plants, and reapplying mulch (but only after the waste removal).
Fall cleanup is all the tasks that need to be completed to prepare for winter that doesn’t neatly fit under other landscaping labels.
R is for Reasons for Cleanup
So why clean up your yard? Cleaning up your yard helps to make it look better and keep it healthier.
The looking better part may be apparent: naturally, everything looks better when it’s clean! A neat property makes your home look better and increases property value.
The healthier part may take a bit more explanation. When debris builds up on your lawn, it gets in the way of the growth of your living plants. In addition, debris traps moisture beneath it, which can lead to mold, fungus, and plant disease.
That isn’t good for your property or your family!
W is for What Gets Cleaned Up
Of course, some would look at that breakdown as a disadvantage. However, if you like less maintenance, you might prefer not having to replace your mulch each year and, in that case, select one of the inorganic mulches we’ll discuss later.
Your Plants Are Never Gonna Get Too Cold
When we do fall cleanup, we remove anything that doesn’t belong. That mainly consists of dead plant debris but also includes flowers that have died or won’t come back next season and any trash that may have made its way into your grass.
Leaf Removal (This subsection is brought to you by the letter L)
Of course, in the fall, one of the most significant parts of seasonal cleanup is leaf removal!
We love fall foliage! The colors are vibrant and beautiful. But once all the leaves have fallen, it’s not long before they start breaking down.
Leaf piles are notorious for their musty odor, which is not something you want to breathe in! So make sure you schedule a leaf cleanup before you really need it.
H is For Holiday Season
It’s nearly time for trick or treating and pumpkin carving! And soon after that, we’ll be turkey carving. But, then, well, even more carving; why do we do all our carving in winter?
We have a lot of holidays coming up. From Halloween to New Year, most families celebrate four major holidays in the two months between October 31 and December 31.
You might not be hosting for all of them, but you may be for at least some. And you probably will also be putting up some decorations!
In the next few months, your house will be full of guests! And on the way into your home, they will go through your yard.
Why do people want to come over when our home looks its worst? Not to worry; Master Grass is ready to get your home holiday-ready. You’ll only have to do the carving yourself.
S is for Snow
Soon we will be dealing with snow. Not too soon, hopefully. But with snow eventually comes snow mold.
Snow mold generally comes in the spring, but its foundation is laid earlier. One of the best ways to minimize snow mold to your lawn is to remove anything covering your grass before the snow arrives!
Y is for Why Hire a Pro (I know, but we already used W)
Can you clean up your property? Sure. But should you?
Seasonal cleanup requires a lot of attention to detail and many person-hours. However, as professional landscapers, we have the equipment and experience to clean up your property efficiently.
Wouldn’t you rather spend your holiday season doing something more enjoyable?
